An article in The Evening Record on November 9, 1917 tells of William M. Warne recovering from an appendicitis operation, while still suffering from having shot himself in the hand when he was on guard duty near Passaic in the spring.

After one year of service,The Evening Record April 20, 1918 article tells of
William (Billy) Warne receiving an honorable discharge after several operations and the amputation of his finger.

The Evening Record September 4, 1918 article tells of William M. Warne being disappointed after trying to re-enlist in the service after his honorable discharge.

The article also mentions his twin brother, Fred Warne, on his way to France.
